Preparing for Your Mini Session

A quick guide for our 30-minute dance sessions

Your session is 30 minutes, so a little prep goes a long way. We've already set the lighting and backdrop for the day — your job is to walk in ready to move, with at least five pose ideas in mind. Here's everything you need to know before you arrive.

Wardrobe

•     You may bring up to two outfits. Changing will use up some of your session time, so plan accordingly.

•     Choose colors that complement your skin tone and eyes.

Hair

•     Arrive with hair styled for your first look. If a headshot is part of your session, have hair down or styled as you'd like it for that shot first.

•     Changing your hairstyle partway through, for example into a bun, will use up some of your session time, so it's your call how you'd like to spend those 30 minutes.

Makeup

•     Keep makeup simple, and skip heavy shimmer or glitter — it photographs even more intensely than it looks in person.

•     Also skip sunscreen on shoot day — it can cause a white flashback under studio lighting.

Come With Pose Ideas

Because these are quick mini sessions, we've preset the studio with either a bright white or light gray backdrop. Come with at least five pose ideas in mind.

•     Poses are required, not optional. The more prepared you are, the more of your 30 minutes we spend shooting instead of brainstorming.

What to Expect In-Studio

•     Please arrive on time and camera ready — your 30 minutes starts at your scheduled time, and you'll have both me and Greg for that window.

•     We're mindful of everyone's time, so sessions run back to back — arriving on time keeps things running smoothly for you and the dancers after you.

•     We'll move at a brisk pace to capture as many strong images as possible.

•     We shoot tethered, so you'll see your images pop up on screen as we go, and picking out favorites together is part of your 30 minutes.

•     It's your session, so it's up to you how you'd like to spend the time.
